Penile Prosthesis Preoperative Information

This information is intended for men who are considering having surgery for the insertion of a penile prosthesis with Dr Gregory Malone from Brisbane Urology Clinic (BUC) or Queensland Urology Clinic (QUC). The following information will help you prepare for your operation. Please read this information carefully. If you have any questions about your operation, please discuss these with your doctor or one of our specialist urology nurses by calling 07 3830 3300.

Preoperative education video

Please watch the following educational video prior to your surgery.

In the video below Dr Greg Malone explains penile prosthesis surgery and recovery.

The implant is completely concealed within your body. You cannot see the implant after surgery, but you will be able to feel the cylinders in your penis and the pump in your scrotum.

The prosthesis is activated by squeezing the pump in your scrotum. This moves fluid from the reservoir in your abdomen to the cyclinders in your penis, giving you an erection.

Watch the video below to understand how a penile prosthesis works.

Watch the video below to see the surgical procedure.  Warning: Viewer discretion advised, live surgical procedure.
